Men’s Health Clinic, Med Spa, or Telehealth? How the Options Compare

The short answer: a men’s health clinic focuses on hormone and metabolic care with in-person labs and visits; a med spa usually adds weight-loss or hormone services to an aesthetics business; telehealth prescribes remotely and ships medication. Which fits depends on how much in-person monitoring and coaching you want. Here’s how they typically compare, and where Ignite fits.

How the options typically compare

Men’s health clinic Med spa Telehealth
Main focus Hormones, weight, metabolic health Aesthetics, with some medical services added Remote prescribing
Lab work Usually drawn on site or ordered locally Varies Mail-in kit or a lab you visit
Provider visits In person Often in person Video or messaging
Follow-up monitoring Scheduled labs and visits Varies Varies; often lab requests by mail
Training and nutrition Sometimes referred out Rarely included App or handouts at most
Good fit for People who want local, ongoing medical oversight People already using the spa for other services People who prioritize convenience

Every provider is different, so treat this as a starting point and ask each one directly.

Questions to ask any of them

  • Who prescribes, and what is their credential? Is there physician oversight?
  • What labs do you run before prescribing, and how often after?
  • How do you handle side effects between visits?
  • What happens if the medication isn’t right for me?
  • Is training or nutrition support included, and is it in person?
  • What is the full monthly cost, and am I signing a contract?

Why training and nutrition matter in the comparison

Medication can support weight loss or hormone levels. It doesn’t build muscle for you. When people lose weight on GLP-1 medication, part of what they lose can be lean mass, including muscle; trials that measured body composition, such as the STEP 1 trial of semaglutide, showed this (Wilding et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 2021). That is why resistance training and protein come up in every serious conversation about these drugs. We wrote about that in Building Muscle While Using GLP-1s.

Where Ignite fits

Ignite Performance and Health in Chesterfield is a fourth option: medical care, coached strength training, and nutrition coaching in one private facility, run as one plan by one team. We call it the Ignition Sequence™. Our provider handles testosterone therapy, hormone therapy for women, and GLP-1 weight management under Medical Director oversight. Our coaches run your training sessions in the same building. Lab results, training, and nutrition are reviewed together instead of in three separate places.

It isn’t the cheapest option or the most convenient one for everybody. If you want to fill a prescription from your couch, telehealth will be simpler. If you want someone watching your labs, your training, and your nutrition in person, that’s what we built.

Most people start with the 2-Week Launchpad, $199.99, which includes labs, a provider visit, six coached sessions, and a nutrition assessment. More on our services: testosterone therapy and GLP-1 weight loss.

We’re at 14830 Clayton Rd in Chesterfield and accepting new patients. Call (314) 887-0858 or book your intake.
